André + Evan Lenox-Samour (b. 1990, Boston, MA) are a queer identical twin artist duo of Palestinian descent based in Brooklyn, New York. Their current work mines family heirlooms, combining ancestral craft traditions with found text to create abstract commemorative sculptures.
Suite7a has 4 of these limited edition “GAZA” pins (brooch) in the shape of the eight-pointed “Holy Star of Bethlehem” created out of Mother of Pearl with engraved text coated in waterproof red ink.
Inspired by family heirlooms, each brooch is handmade in NYC by André & Evan Lenox-Samour in the Bethlehemi craft tradition of Mother-of-Pearl carving that dates back to the fifteenth century.
Each pin takes the shape of a variation of the eight-pointed ‘Star of Bethlehem’— a motif indigenous to the Holy Land––and is engraved with text reading “GAZA” in the style of a compass rose.
80% of the proceeds will go towards the Palestine Shield Initiative https://palshield.org/, a grassroots organisation that partners with West Bank farming communities facing daily challenges such as settler violence and land confiscation. PALSHIELD aid drops, including medical equipment, protective gear, and perimeter security tools, and works with farmers on the ground to provide defensive training to help Palestinians safeguard their lives and sustain their livelihoods in the face of occupation.
20% of the proceeds will cover the shipping from the US and some of the admin costs.
