We host exhibitions with a dynamic range of artists. We have a bar and often run live events like music nights, screenings, workshops, poetry readings and book launches, we also have instore Sydney’s best and most affordable consignment store, Treasure.
Suite7a is a place to have a drink (you can choose from an iconic range of non alcoholic and alcoholic options), spend slow time with the curated book selection, buy archival wear, jewellery and art.
We counter a politically hostile creative environment where access to exhibitions, studios, platforms can be prohibitively expensive. Suite7a provides affordable access points so people can buy work from artists they love! We are 100% independent and artist run.
We survive and thrive without government funding, institutional interference and problematic (any) donors.

How we stay independent
In order to be 100% independent, keep the lights on, cover out of pocket costs and continue to support artists and the community, this is how we do what we do:
Suite7a’s main operation is experimenting with a small-scale artist commissions, whereby artists are given a small production fee up-front to produce a series of saleable works for our website and gallery.
We are interested in making a self-sufficient (albeit humble) model of generating and funding artists’ experimentation, practice and work; where artists are given fair and timely reimbursement on sales, and have transparency about where income for the gallery project ends up.
Both Suite7a and Treasure items are sold at a 60% artist / 40% Suite7a split.
Suite7a hiring terms
In addition to our inhouse programming and curation, Suite7a is also available to hire for private or public facing events that align with our philosophies. We love supporting our community to bring to life their own events and have worked with a range of artists who have hired Suite7a to run music nights, talks, screenings, exhibitions and more.
Generally, hiring Suite7a is $250 for half a day and $450 for a full day. Any income generated from venue hire, bar sales and the small commissions is directed towards funding future rounds of artist commissions, free programs and keeping the doors open.
We understand that venue fees can be a barrier and are always happy to chat and advise on how to run a financially sustainable event that is mutually nurturing for everyone.
